# ChatGPT

> Connect Centaur to ChatGPT through a custom MCP plugin with OAuth.

## Overview

Use this guide to connect Centaur to ChatGPT and verify that it can call `list_events`.

That verification prompt is only a simple smoke test. Once connected, ChatGPT can use the broader Centaur surface across the partner feed, events, messages, generated narrative summaries, positions, discovery, and stats.

The official ChatGPT listing uses OAuth.

## Before you begin

Before you begin, make sure you have:

* A Centaur account that is active with a verified email
* Access to create custom MCP plugins in ChatGPT
* Developer mode enabled under **Settings > Security and login**. Availability depends on your account and workspace policy; ask your administrator if the option is unavailable.

## Set up ChatGPT

1. Open **Plugins** in ChatGPT.
2. Select **Create app**, shown as a plus button.
3. Enter a name for the Centaur plugin.
4. Set the MCP URL to <code>{mcpUrl}</code>.
5. Select **OAuth** authentication.
6. Open **Advanced OAuth settings** after discovery completes.
7. Keep **Client Identifier Metadata Document (CIMD)** as the registration method. No client ID or secret is needed.
8. Keep the discovered read scopes. Add `offline_access` to **Base scopes** to keep the connection authorized after website logout.
9. Create the plugin and select its sign-in button.
10. Sign in to Centaur and approve the requested access.

If the connected plugin shows no actions, select **Refresh** in its settings to load the tool definitions.

## Verify the integration

After setup, open a chat and ask:

Confirm ChatGPT can discover the connector and return results from `list_events`.
After that succeeds, the connector is ready for the wider supported Centaur reads.

## Troubleshooting

* If your workspace hides connector settings, confirm Developer Mode is enabled before creating the connector.
* If an older custom connector asks for unavailable registration or client credentials, create a new connection with CIMD and the full MCP URL.
* If the browser sign-in flow does not complete, recreate the connector so it can retry OAuth.
* OpenAI API-side MCP integrations may still require your application to supply an access token directly. This guide is for the interactive ChatGPT connector flow.
